Adam Holmes has spent more than fifteen years making songs and learning what makes a room work.

A Scottish BBC award-winning songwriter from Edinburgh, Adam’s music has been broadcast across BBC Radio and featured in television and film, including Outlander and Apple TV productions.

He grew up in Portobello, the second youngest of eight children, surrounded by music — slow airs, church hymns, Edinburgh folk sessions and old fiddle tunes learned by ear.

At 19, on the same day he was offered an apprenticeship on a building site, Adam learned that he had reached the semi-finals of the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year.

He chose music.

What followed was years of playing wherever he could.

Small rooms.
Quiet corners.
Churches.
Halls.

The kinds of spaces where a song either holds or it doesn’t.

Along the way, Adam has shared stages with artists including Martin Simpson, Karine Polwart and John Prine, and appeared on bills alongside Laura Marling, Van Morrison and Jason Isbell.

That experience became the foundation for Holmes Presents.
